It’s festival season again – bands, orchestras, crowds, camping, and often three days without a shower.
Preparing your hair for a festival means, first and foremost, protecting it from inevitable aggressions. Infrequent showers, sun, sweat, greasy hair: large outdoor gatherings are a real challenge for your hair.
But don’t worry, a few simple steps will be enough to prevent greasy hair and dandruff all season long:
1. Plan ahead! The days ahead, however fun, will put your hair to the test. So, in preparation, wash it on the morning of your departure, not the day before.
At the end of the third outdoor day, you’ll be glad you did your last shampoo three days ago, and not four or five.
2. Adapt your treatments to the forecast weather Check the weather before you leave. If sunshine is predicted, and you plan to stay outdoors all day, your hair risks getting overheated. So use a conditioner to nourish and moisturize your hair as much as possible, and limit damage.
But, whatever preventive care you take, don't stay in the sun for too long. Conditioner doesn't block UV rays, and your hair will get damaged.
Rain threatens? Remember to bring a bottle of Head & Shoulders Smooth & Silky to combat any frizz.
3. Don't forget your "survival kit" Your campsite may not have showers, and even if it does, who knows what state they'll be in? But even without proper showers, you can still wash your hair with a travel-sized bottle of Head & Shoulders and a bottle of water.
Granted, it’s a makeshift solution, but it will be more than enough to make your hair look its best in your souvenir photos from this year’s festival.
4. Don’t overheat your scalp It’s tempting to shelter under a hat when the sun is beating down, especially since it disguises hair that’s no longer pristine after a few days of camping. But don’t forget that these accessories heat up your head, creating a microcosm favorable to the proliferation of microorganisms responsible for dandruff.
Learn more about the causes of dandruff
Wearing a head covering in the middle of the crowd or under the sun during a concert could worsen your dandruff problem. Let your hair breathe! If you really can’t stand it, try to spend a few hours in a shaded area.
Who knows, it might be an opportunity to discover talented unknowns away from the main stages!
5. Skip the styling products Forget hairsprays, mousses, and other gels. You might have a great look when you leave for the concert, but after a few days in a tent, all you'll have gained is really greasy hair.
So, give them a break during the season. If they’re long, you can always tie them up or braid them to keep them out of your eyes. This kind of hairstyle will probably last the whole concert, and you won’t need to undo it in the evening to redo it in the morning.
If it rains, all you have to do is let them down to regain their full volume.
