Moisturized hair doesn’t just look better, it feels better. But the elements, your styling tools and methods, and even stress can make your hair look dry and feel brittle. If your hair is more straw than silk, we’ve got the tips to get your hair looking hydrated.

Tip #1: Condition

Conditioners are designed to add hydration to your hair after shampooing so if you’re not using a conditioner, you should be! If you are using a conditioner and you’re still not seeing the moisture you want in your strands, it might be time to switch it up to a deeper, more nourishing formula, or adding in a third step like a hydrating hair oil or mask.

Tip #2: Go warm, not hot

Hot water can strip your hair of the natural oils it needs to stay looking shiny and feeling healthy. When you’re in the shower, turn the knob to warm instead of hot to help keep your hair from drying out. If you’re feeling really brave, after you shampoo and condition, give your hair one last rinse with cold water: this will help your hair follicles close, sealing in moisture and shine.

Tip #3: Drink water

Many of us don’t get the daily recommended amount of water. This doesn’t just dehydrate our body, it can also dehydrate our hair. So if you’re feeling parched, your hair probably is, too. Chug a glass of water and your hair just might thank you.

Tip #4: Protect your hair from the elements

Just like any other part of your body, the elements can do serious damage to your hair. And unlike your skin, which hurts when it burns, you might not notice the damage that’s being done to your hair until it’s too late. Reach for a hat on sunny days to protect your strands from drying, damaging UV rays.

Tip #5: Deal with damage

Let’s be honest – it's unlikely that you’re going to go through life without damaging your hair at least a little. You can help negate the effects of hair damage by choosing nourishing hair care to bring back health and shine, and by keeping up with your haircuts to chop off any damaged ends which could split and cause even more damage.

Follow these tips, and you should have hydrated and healthy-looking hair in no time!
