HOW SHAMPOO FRAGRANCES WORK

Head and Shoulders

Did you know the fragrance in a shampoo works in exactly the same way as a perfume or cologne? Discover how we make our shampoos smell amazing.

HOW SHAMPOO FRAGRANCES WORK

Complex notes of blossoms, apples and citrus – it sounds like a wine-tasting but this is actually how fragrances are made for a bottle of shampoo.

Shampoos that smell amazing follow exactly the same process as used by the top perfume manufacturers; essential oils are extracted from flowers, fruits and other plants, and then dissolved into the shampoo.

There’s a lot going on It’s a complex 3-layered process to create the perfect scent:

Top notes: you’ll smell these in the shower. Their small molecular size means they invade the air fastest on contact with warm water.

We use everything from wild strawberries and melon to jasmine flowers and fresh ginger. When the molecules hit the water and are activated, you get an amazing aroma in the shower.

Heart notes: these slightly heavier molecules harmonise the fragrance and scent your hair during rinsing.

Base notes: these are the largest molecules in the fragrance and come into play as your hair dries. The longest-lasting part of any fragrance, these notes linger on your hair to give it an amazing scent all day long.

Pick your fragrance There’s no limit to the number of fragrances you can add to a shampoo and we’ve developed a number including Green Apple, Instant Oil Control shampoo and even added a masculine scent to our Old Spice shampoo.
