HOW WE'RE REDUCING THE IMPACT OF MANUFACTURING THE WORLD'S #1 SHAMPOO

We strive to address the aspects of our manufacturing process that may harm the environment, including:

  • Energy consumption: Electricity is constantly needed, whether turning on lights or running machines.
  • Water consumption: Used as a coolant at all stages of manufacturing, it is also an essential ingredient in our shampoos.
  • CO2 emissions: The entire process is affected, from the transport of raw materials to manufacturing.
  • Manufacturing waste: All manufacturing processes generate waste. We want to reduce all of this and ensure that our waste is optimized through recycling.

What have we achieved so far? Here are the results obtained by Head & Shoulders from 2010 to 2015:

  • reduction in energy consumption: 7%
  • reduction in water consumption: 11%
  • reduction in manufacturing waste: 85%
  • reduction in CO2 emissions: 11%

Turning waste into useful products Our goal is to send nothing to landfill. This means imagining innovative methods to recycle and reuse the waste generated during the manufacturing process.

Today, seven of our factories operate according to this system.

Instead of sending our waste to landfill, we turn it into useful objects. We use empty bottles to make other plastic items, such as furniture and planters.

Use of renewable energies Another crucial aspect of our carbon emission reduction plan involves the use of renewable energies. And we are making great strides in this area:

  • Taicang, China: our factory uses 100% renewable wind electricity to manufacture H&S products.
  • Xiqing, China: more than 15% of the factory's energy needs are now met by geothermal energy extracted on site.
