Discover what we’ve done to reduce the amount of plastic in our packaging, and to ensure almost all of our bottles are recyclable.
Beyond the waste generated during manufacturing, we are also concerned with the packaging itself.
As the world’s #1 shampoo, we have a responsibility to lead by example when it comes to caring for the planet.
With over a billion sales per year, the changes we make can have a huge positive impact.
So, we have a two-part strategy when it comes to managing the waste our packaging creates:
- Reducing packaging volume: By making lighter packaging and using less plastic, empty bottles create less waste.
- Recyclable packaging: To go even further, and reduce the amount of waste, we strive to reuse packaging whenever possible.
Reducing packaging Since 2008, we have reduced the weight of our packaging per liquid ml by more than 30%.
We intend to go even further, and reduce packaging by an additional 20% (compared to 2010) by 2020.
Recycling packaging Plastic recycling is not a new idea. Many of you already recycle your household packaging as much as possible.
Our goal is to make 90% of our packaging recyclable.
This way, whenever you finish a bottle of Head & Shoulders, you can recycle it and contribute to the effort of reducing waste ending up in landfills.
And it can really make a difference. If 90% of our Head & Shoulders bottles were recycled, we would save enough energy to power 450 million 60W light bulbs for 6 hours each year.
