Becoming intolerant to a shampoo is a common myth A common myth is that you can become intolerant to a dandruff shampoo, so that it becomes less effective over time.
Many people believe that regularly changing shampoo prevents the body from getting used to a specific product.
There is no evidence to support this claim, but there may be several reasons why your dandruff shampoo is not working.
These factors include:
- changing shampoo
- using a cosmetic shampoo that chases away the active ingredients
- using the wrong conditioner
- not using your dandruff shampoo frequently enough
Do not change shampoo Changing shampoo can be harmful. With an anti-dandruff shampoo, on days when you switch to a regular shampoo, you are not giving your scalp the protection it needs against dandruff.
So you don’t get the protection you need and dandruff can come back.
With an anti-dandruff shampoo, most of the anti-dandruff action of the shampoo happens outside the shower.
Once dandruff is washed away, the active anti-dandruff ingredients remain on your scalp to protect it and prevent dandruff from reappearing.
Cosmetic shampoos that chase away active ingredients can cause dandruff to return A common myth is that anti-dandruff shampoos are harsh on your hair and scalp.
This leads some people to use an anti-dandruff shampoo, and then wash their hair with another cosmetic shampoo, to moisturize and nourish it.
Using a cosmetic shampoo reduces the effectiveness of the anti-dandruff shampoo. It can remove your protection, which means you are more likely to see dandruff return.
Our Nourishing Care shampoo, enriched with lavender essential oil, moisturizes hair and leaves it supple and soft, while preventing dandruff.
Use the right conditioner For even more softness, try one of our anti-dandruff conditioners. Unlike ordinary conditioners that can remove anti-dandruff protection, they are designed to work in synergy with Head & Shoulders shampoos, to moisturize your scalp and hair, and protect you from dandruff.
Wash frequently to protect yourself from dandruff
For best results, we recommend using a dandruff shampoo at least 3 times a week. Washing less frequently can cause irritants to build up on the scalp and trigger dandruff. Frequent washing helps ensure your scalp is always protected from dandruff.
