HOW TO SPOT SYMPTOMS OF SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS

Head and Shoulders

Dandruff, dryness, itching: all the signs are there, but how do you know if it's seborrheic dermatitis? Find out with our symptom detection guide.

It's often hard to tell if your symptoms are caused by dandruff or a more severe form, seborrheic dermatitis.

That's because the two have the same root cause. However, you may need a more aggressive or intensive treatment to relieve and prevent seborrheic dermatitis symptoms.

Here's what to look out for:

  • More severe dandruff
  • White/yellowish flakes: these tend to be greasier than dandruff flakes
  • Red, inflamed patches on the scalp

Treat dandruff first

If it's dandruff, it's quite easy to treat it effectively.

Simply use a Head & Shoulders anti-dandruff shampoo with 1% zinc pyrithione every time you wash your hair (preferably at least 3 times a week) for 3 weeks, then check the results.

Whether you have dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis, you'll see a significant improvement. Continue to use the shampoo regularly to maintain these results. But if, after three weeks, you don't notice complete relief, switch to our seborrheic dermatitis shampoo.

It contains selenium sulfide, which has been proven effective against severe dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.

For dandruff that doesn't respond to any treatment, consult a dermatologist. Other conditions, such as scalp psoriasis, can cause dandruff that doesn't respond to anti-dandruff shampoo.
