We’ve all been there: you’re at airport security and you realise your go-to hair products are in your carry-on luggage and will be confiscated by security. Our handy guide to travel hair care will ensure you never have to face a trip without the products you need.
Opt for travel-sized products
The simplest way to keep everything with you when travelling with hand luggage is to opt for travel-sized products. These are bottles that are no larger than 100 ml.
Most hair products are now available in convenient travel sizes. Even Head & Shoulders is now available in 75 ml and 90 ml bottles. This means you can get rid of 100% of dandruff even when travelling.
DIY travel sizes
If all your favourite products come in large sizes, you can create your own travel bottles.
Many shops now sell empty plastic bottles under 100 ml that you can simply fill with your favourite products before you leave and place in your carry-on luggage. This way, you won't have any problems. A tip to prevent leaks and spills in your suitcase: before screwing on the cap, seal the bottle opening with a piece of plastic. Simply remove the plastic when you arrive at your destination.
Pack the right products
You may need different products depending on your destination, especially if the climate is different or if you are going to do activities that could damage your hair.
At home, you might be happy with a light moisturising shampoo, but if you're going to a humid climate, you might need to use a more intensive anti-frizz shampoo. You might also need to add a conditioner.
Going to the beach or planning to dive into the pool?
Your hair can easily be damaged by chlorine or seawater. So, take a repairing shampoo with you to use there to limit the damage.
If your trip is going to be very active, you may need to wash your hair and scalp more often than usual.
If so, consider taking a purifying shampoo.
Learn simple hairstyles
Why not take advantage of your holiday to try out new hairstyles? After all, no one you know will be there to judge.
Going somewhere hot and humid? Try updos or create natural waves by braiding your hair or tying it in a loose bun while it is still damp.
You'll need to experiment a bit, but your hair will be happy to avoid the stress of styling tools and products.
